Description
Summary:The initial focus of the present study was intended to develop phyto-assessment tools for the evaluation of the environmental condition of lowland wetlands in the Fynbos biome of the South Western Cape of South Africa. A field survey and analysis of freshwater wetland vegetation across the Cape coastal lowlands (below 200m a.s.l.) was undertaken in the present study to explore the potential to identify aspects of the vegetation that could serve as indicators of the present environmental state within wetlands. The Braun Blanquet approach was employed for the vegetation sampling of 59 wetlands in three subregions of the coastal lowlands of the Fynbos biome.
