A study of the reliability and validity of the Grover Developmental Charts for very young children between 10 and 36 months was carried out. A total of 108 white, English speaking children of both sexes, were selected from crèches and private homes in the Cape Peninsula. The subjects were tested on the Grover Developmental charts and then retested on them between five and seven days later, to establish test-retest reliability. At the same time as the subjects were retested on the Grover Developmental Charts, the Denver Developmental Screening Test was administered as the criterion test. Tester-observer reliability was established on 21 children. The Grover Developmental Charts were examined for validity in terms of face validity; criterion related validity; concurrent rather than predictive validity; and construct validity a reflected in age differentiation; correlations with another test; factor analysis and internal consistency. Results are discussed and indicate that the Grover Developmental Charts have excellent test-retest reliability and are valid in terms of the criteria by which they were examined. 2016-03-21T19:20:54Z 2016-03-21T19:20:54Z 1978 Master Thesis Masters MSc http://hdl.handle.net/11427/18087 eng application/pdf Department of Psychology Faculty of Humanities University of Cape Town
