This thesis describes investigations into the genetic effects of long term UV-B exposure in Namaqualand daisies (Dimorphotheea sinuata) grown for several generations under ambient and enhanced UV-B levels. Enhanced UV-B radiation was found to have a major effect on the biochemical composition of the chloroplast accompanied by impairment of photosynthetic function, involving a down-regulation of photosynthetic genes and an up-regulation of flavonoid biosynthesis. 2014-07-30T17:40:16Z 2014-07-30T17:40:16Z 2001 Doctoral Thesis Doctoral PhD http://hdl.handle.net/11427/4301 eng application/pdf Department of Molecular and Cell Biology Faculty of Science University of Cape Town
