This dialect research used a sociolinguistic approach, taking account of geographical and situational factors. Variations, as manifested in systematized to determine the modern Oosgrensafrikaans, were characteristics of a standard Oosgrensafrikaans in order to distinguish it from other varieties of Afrikaans. A summary of previous research that was done on variation is compiled in this study. Although the studies varied in the research models that were used, this compilation can still be of great help to future researchers in the field of sociolinguistics. The presented research model aims to create a standardized design for research in this field. In conclusion an inventory of the vernacular of thirty six users from this region was systematized regarding phonological, morphological, syntactical and lexical phenomena. This inventory can be of great value to future researchers in this field.
